Homemade DIY Hand Sanitizer Recipe

In this world wide COVID-19 pandemic some of us are short on supplies, but it’s actually easy to make your own hand sanitizer. While washing your hands with soap is the best way to reduce the spread of flu and cold, a hand sanitizer is your next best option when you don’t have soap and water available.

DIY-Hand-Sanitizer-Recipe

Did you know many essential oils can also have anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and wellness boosting properties?
Here are a few essential oils that can add a wellness boost to your homemade sanitizers:

Thyme Oil
Is a antimicrobial and ant-inflammatory and antioxidant agent. It has been shown to be effective against cough and the respiratory system. (1)

Melaleuca Oil (also called Niaouli)
It is known to have antibacterial, antiviral & anti-fungal properties.

Eucalyptus Oil
It’s excellent for opening the nasal passages, stimulating the immune system and it’s also an antioxidant. (2)

Cinnamon Oil
It has been shown to be an antimicrobial as well as anti-inflammatory. Cinnamon oil is thought to have many wellness boosting benefits. (3)

I am also adding Hydrogen peroxide at 3-5% of the solution as it has actually shown to be effective against SARS-CoV-2.

Here are 2 quick and easy DIY Hand Sanitizer recipe:

Spray Hand Cleanser Recipe

  • Ingredients & supplies:
  • Rubbing alcohol or vodka
  • 4 tbls hydrogen peroxide
  • Distilled water
  • 15 drops each of 2 or 3 essential oils of your choice
  • Small funnel

Use the funnel to pour into 3 ounce spay bottle containers and then screw the lid on then your done! If using essential oils I recommend using colored containers to help block the light from affecting the oil quality.

Gel Hand Sanitizer Recipe

Combine the following ingredients into a bowl:

  • 2/3 cup rubbing alcohol or vodka (or 60-70% )
  • 1/3 cup aloe vera gel
  • 5 tablespoons (or 3%) hydrogen peroxide

Add essential oils for an extra boost:

  • 10 drops melaleuca or tea tree oil
  • 10 drops of thyme or oregano oil

Stir and pour into small squeeze bottle containers to take with you on the go. If using essential oils I recommend using colored containers to help block the light from affecting the oil quality.
