5 Benefits of Drinking Lemon Water in the Morning

purelyrevivewell · February 7, 2019 · Leave a Comment

A glass of water with warm lemon in the morning on an empty stomach can do you so much good.  It’s one of the first things I do in my morning routine.  But first, here’s a quick tip:   Wash your lemons before cutting them! I didn’t do it in the past because lemons have a thick skin and the inside seems protected.  It may seem like an annoying extra step but once I found out that if you don’t wash your lemons before cutting them, the knife coming through spreads unwanted bacteria and germs.  I quickly turned into a lemon washer.  Squeeze a couple of lemon slices in your water, Add some mint and if it’s too sour for your taste a touch of honey.

Here’s a few benefits of drinking lemon water in the morning:

It helps you stay hydrated.
Most of us don’t drink enough water which is important for so many reasons.  And, after a night’s hour rest without drinking any water it’s what our body really needs it!

Immune System Booster:

It’s a source of vitamin C.  Vitamin C is also good for the adrenal glands, which can potentially help reduce the effects of chronic stress. It also is a source of citric acid, potassium, calcium, phosphorus and magnesium.  Wow.

Aids digestion:
It’s a natural flush.  By drinking water that’s room temperature, you will be helping to cleanse your digestive system.  It is said that lemon juice can aid in stimulating proper stomach acid and bile production. According to Ayurveda medicine which puts a focus on gut health, the lemon taste helps stimulate your “agni”.  A strong angi jump starts the digestive system, allowing you to digest food more easily and prevent the buildup of toxins

It Supports Weight Loss:
Drinking water before meals can help you feel fuller.  I recommend drinking at least one glass before every meal.  You likely need it to keep from getting dehydrated so why not get it in before your meal to help you keep the proportions you’re eating to the right amount.   In one study, it was even shown that participants metabolic rates increased after drinking about 17 ounces of water, as noted in this Web MD Article.

You’ll have Healthier Skin:
The vitamin C is needed for collagen products which gives you smoother skin.  Plus, the hydration will help keep your skin from drying out while the cleansing effect can help keep your skin clear.  If you have fine lines making a stronger appearance lately, you may need to simply drink more water.

As you can see there are some fantastic benefits to drinking a glass of lemon water in the morning. So, cut up a lemon and add some taste to your water and enjoy!
