Here in Florida scum builds up fast on my glass shower door. My natural solution of water and vinegar simply wasn’t cutting it. But did you know orange essential oil can cut through grease and scum? This makes it perfect to go in cleaning solutions. All the citrus essential oils really are excellent for cleaning such as Lemon, Lime and Grapefruit oil.

I mixed up the solution below and now my shower is looking cleaner than ever. Scum free.
Supplies:
- Vinegar
- Essential Oils: Orange Oil, Lime Oil, Naouli Oil (Melalueca) If you want to use high quality essential oils that are certified organic, I sell them and you can purchase them here on my website.
- 1/2 Cup dish soap – I used 7th Generation
- A funnel
- 16 Oz spray bottle – glass spray bottles like this work great, but you can also use certain types of plastic spray bottles that are safe for use with diluted essential oils. It will say it can be used with essential oils or look for plastic #1 PET or plastic #2 HDPE.
This is why this all natural shower cleaner works does such a great job:
Dishwashing soap: This is the power ingredient in the cleaning solution. It will dissolve the soap scum and dirt as well as cut through any grease.
Vinegar: It’s a great natural cleaner for bathrooms and kitchen counter tops. It also fights mold and mildew. It will clear those water spots and make your shower look shiny too.
Essential Oils:
Lemon oil is antibacterial and cleansing and that’s why it’s often used in cleaning solutions.
Orange oil can cut grease and will work great against scum.
Niaouli Oil (Melaleuca) is also very anti-bacterial and often used for cleaning to assist with getting rid of mold and mildew.
Grapefruit Oil is also an anti-sceptic and disinfectant.
All of these oils are excellent to add into a cleaning solution. They also all smell lovely.
Steps:
- First add the vinegar and dish soap. Apple cider vinegar may offer a better smell but in this case white is what I had.

– 15 Drops Orange Oil
